The Undercut Racing Manager Early Access 0.5.4 notes
The launch build — 0.5.3 plus a week of tester reports.
0.5.4 is the build The Undercut: Racing Manager shipped into Steam Early Access in September 2026. It is 0.5.3 with a concentrated fix list. If you only read one patch page, read this one, then the roadmap so you know what is still missing.
Price at opening was $14.99 with a short introductory discount. Confirm the live store price via the links hub. A 0.5.3 save opens here. Closing the window now saves the career.
Displays, Deck, and input
High-refresh and high-resolution screens work properly. The resolution picker is patched. Opening Settings from pause no longer auto-picks a resolution. The game could crash on exit on Windows; that is fixed.
Steam Deck and gamepad:
- Selection ring accepts any stick or the D-pad. The right-stick-as-mouse template no longer bricks infrastructure and negotiation UI.
- Tabs follow draw order; bumpers are not reversed.
- Bumpers adjust Work Unit and salary fields.
- Weekend repair accepts Start.
- Qualifying run plan scrolls with triggers.
- Linux demo launch crash on Deck is fixed.
- Podium and country screens fit.
Full binding notes sit on controls.
Race weekend fixes
Cars no longer weave left and right through corners on hand-traced circuits. Timing-tower logos no longer scatter. The lap counter no longer hides behind pitwall buttons at raised HUD scale. Simulated practice blamed the wrong driver and could hit 00:00 with cars still lapping — fixed. Minimap position numbers could draw upside down in Quick Race — fixed.
These are the unglamorous reasons a demo weekend felt “off.” They are also why returning players should not judge 0.5.4 by an older video.
Career and economy
Driver market rebalanced. Use the new world with scouting, not last month’s salary intuition.
Scouting Work Units triple: 45 per GP at level 1, 180 at level 10. This is the number most likely to be wrong on third-party pages.
Factory display tells the truth. Weak factories no longer show a zero car with extra development room. Development room follows the plant. See car development.
Sponsors are shared across disciplines. A brand can back a single-seater, a touring car, and a GT at once. Catalogue about 40% larger. Development series now have backers; six of ten had none. A 100% marketing lock can no longer be stolen by an AI team that was one short.
Prize money up 20% for races and championships. Finishing in the points is a finance plan, not a ribbon.
AI facilities freeze in-season. They invest at rollover like the player. Loans and share sales remain their in-season levers.
Circuit pool is a choice for new careers: hand-curated (default) or legacy procedural, under Settings → Career.
Academy loan income has its own Finance section. Improve tab no longer advertises reliability cost four times too high. Worn parts warn before they ruin a weekend. Stuck negotiations self-heal if a sponsor signs another way.
Tutorial and interface
The walkthrough opens on pre-season instead of touring twenty apps. The welcome card shows the two title-bar buttons it mentions. New cards cover Private Testing and the rule that nothing spends until the turn ends. Weekend loadout and run-plan guides actually appear. Sarah’s voice was re-recorded for changed lines.
Launch card points at Discord. Career sidebar no longer eats clicks at raised UI scale. Turn card names the turn that is opening. End-of-phase button reads Testing when that is the step.
Modding and languages
Dropping a single pack in mods/ no longer applies it to every new career, including unmodded ones. That rewrite of drivers, teams, sponsors, calendar, and rules was a silent save-killer. Fixed.
An English-only lang/TEMPLATE.txt ships for community language packs. Official localizations remain English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese.
What 0.5.4 is not
It is not weather. It is not the era tech tree. It is not playable touring or GT. It is not multiplayer. Those are roadmap items. It is not a 1.0 UI. You will find rough edges. Report them with a save.
If you are starting fresh, follow getting started on this build, not on a memory of the demo’s scouting pool. If you are mid-season from 0.5.3, keep going; then read race strategy again because tyre and fuel rebalance landed in 0.5.3 and still define 0.5.4 Sundays.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for pitwall decisions, scouting, and career systems.
Do I need a new career for 0.5.4?
No. 0.5.3 saves open. New careers still need a new save if you want the circuit-pool setting from the start.
What is the single biggest gameplay number change?
Scouting Work Units per level tripled. Recheck scouting before you plan a market.
Is the tutorial worth turning on?
Yes. It now starts in pre-season and includes Private Testing and run-plan cards that used to be missing.
Where do I report a bug?
In-game reporter (log plus config) or Discord via links. Attach a save.
