The Undercut Racing Manager Mods and the circuit editor
Draw tracks, replace grids, and drop packs without rewriting every career.
The Undercut: Racing Manager ships fictional series on purpose. The licence is missing; the editors are not. If you want a 1991 calendar with real names, a fantasy GT grid, or a street circuit traced from a satellite photo, you do that in-game. This page is the how-to. It is not a file host. Packs belong on Discord, not in a wiki download button.
Read circuits before you draw anything so you know what a useful layout looks like. Read getting started before you replace the driver pool, or you will debug a wizard instead of a race.
Two editors, one folder
Circuit Editor — draw freehand or trace an image. 0.5.3 added Radius and Angle sliders (per turn, per sector, or the whole track), a trace-fidelity slider, Analyse (full-sim lap report), and a Test drive that actually renders. Fixes in the same patch: reshaping a corner no longer leaves a kink mid-bend, and the sliders actually do something.
Mod Editor — replace teams, drivers, sponsors, calendars, rules, and, from 0.5.3, custom car sprites. You can build a full scenario: a one-make cup, a regional touring grid, a historic championship with locked regulations.
Drop finished packs in the game’s mods/ folder. Language packs can start from lang/TEMPLATE.txt (English-only template for community translation). The language editor ships with it.
The 0.5.4 bug you must know
Before launch, dropping a single pack in mods/ applied it to every new career, including ones you started unmodded. It rewrote drivers, teams, sponsors, calendar, and rules permanently. 0.5.4 fixed that. If an alpha tester told you mods are radioactive, they were right then and wrong now. Still: keep an unmodded save, and do not mix half-finished packs on the career you care about.
A career saved in 0.5.3 opens in 0.5.4. Save compatibility from here forward is something Staz intends to protect. That is not a promise that a broken pack will be kind to an old save.
How to make a circuit that races
- Open the Circuit Editor. Trace if you have a map; draw if you are sketching a fantasy venue.
- Set corner radius and angle so the car can actually turn. A hairpin that is a kink is a crash factory.
- Run Analyse. You want a lap report with braking zones and a pit lane that is not a secret tunnel.
- Test drive. If the screen is black, you are not on 0.5.3+.
- Check overtaking. A silhouette with no passing zones becomes a procession, which makes the undercut the only way to gain places.
- Export into a pack. Name files like an adult. Put the pack in
mods/.
Hand-curated launch circuits are the quality bar: unique layouts, stable per city, readable mini-maps. If your trace looks like a potato, play it yourself for a weekend before you share it. The circuits page lists the labels your card should still support — tyre wear, overtaking, pit-lane length — because the sim will invent them from geometry.
How to replace a grid
Use the Mod Editor to swap constructors, driver names, helmets, and sponsor brands. Custom sprites landed in 0.5.3. Identity bugs that collapsed constructor ids onto one value are fixed; new careers no longer inherit a deleted career’s race history. If you are cloning a real championship, remember this wiki will not host copyrighted liveries. Discord is the workshop.
Calendars can be rebuilt. That is how you get a sixteen-round fantasy versus the shipped season. Regulations can differ. Playable touring and GT seats are still roadmap items for the official career; a mod can still theme a grid before those headline updates land.
Language packs
The game ships English (full audio), French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese. Community packs use the English template. Do not expect this fan wiki to translate your pack. Do expect TEMPLATE.txt to be the starting file, not a screenshot of the UI.
Safety habits
- One pack per experiment. Stacking three unfinished folders is how you cannot tell which file killed the calendar.
- Keep a clean career. 0.5.4 stopped silent global apply; it did not make backups optional.
- Use the in-game bug reporter with a save attached. Mod issues belong on Discord with the pack name in the title.
- Do not install random executables because a forum said they unlock money. This is a single-player Steam sim with an official editor. Cheat loaders are not a feature; they are a way to brick a save.
How mods meet the rest of the wiki
A custom tyre-shredder still uses Soft and Hard. Race strategy does not change because you traced Monaco. Hidden part traits still appear in practice; car development still applies. A modded driver pool still hides INT and PAC until you scout; scouting still spends Work Units. The driver tier list is a rubric for generated talent, not a list of your renamed heroes.
If a pack changes regulations — fewer stops, different compounds — believe the pack, then come back here and ignore the Soft/Hard examples until you measure practice.
Share finished work on the Discord linked from the links hub. This site will not mirror zip files.
When not to mod
Your first career should be vanilla. You need one clean season to learn the desktop, the undercut, and the factory. Mods are for the second save, after getting started and a full calendar. If the official pool already has seventy venues, you do not need a new one to enjoy GP 1.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for pitwall decisions, scouting, and career systems.
Where do I put mod packs?
In the game's mods folder. 0.5.4 stopped a pack from rewriting every new career. Confirm paths on the links hub and Discord if a pack does not appear.
Does the circuit editor work on Steam Deck?
The editor is in the PC build. Deck bindings were repaired in 0.5.4 for career UI; drawing is still easier with a mouse. See controls and system requirements.
Can I publish licensed Formula 1 names?
The official game is fictional by design. This wiki will not host copyrighted grids. Use Discord if you share a pack, and read circuits for layout quality first.
Will 1.0 break my packs?
Early Access will move. Headline updates are on the roadmap. Keep unmodded saves. Staz intends to protect save compatibility from 0.5.3 forward, not every third-party folder.
