The Undercut: Racing Manager ships a free PC demo on Steam (demo app 4667680). It is the honest hardware test and the honest systems test. This page is how to install it, what it is for, and what it is not. Official buttons live on the store page, mirrored from the links hub.

The trailer on this page is Staz.Tech’s Early Access trailer — the same one the official site embeds. It is not a let’s play. After you watch it, install the demo rather than buying blind if the desktop still looks like homework.

How to install

1. Open The Undercut: Racing Manager on Steam.
2. On the store page, look at the right-hand column.
3. Click Download PC Demo. Steam installs it into your library as its own app.

You need a free Steam account. The demo runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and SteamOS. Phones cannot run it. Open the store page from a computer. Official site copy matches this three-step path.

What the demo is for

Run a live qualifying session and a race stint, not only the menu. You want to know three things:

• Does the machine hold 1×? CPU, not GPU, is the bottleneck. Numbers sit on system requirements.
• Does the desktop click? Twenty sidebar apps, mail gates, a Win95 hub. If that feels like a second job after twenty minutes, the paid career is the same job with sponsors attached.
• Does the race view hook you? Dirty air, a three-car fight, a puncture. If you pause to watch, you are the audience this sim wants.

The demo tracks the latest build. Launch week it followed 0.5.4. After hotfixes 0.5.4-1 and 0.5.4-2 the full game moved; update the demo the same way you update any Steam app.

Deck, audio, and display gotchas

0.5.4 fixed the Linux demo crash on Steam Deck at launch. 0.5.4-1 stopped a black rectangle under the HUD when fullscreen ran below native resolution, and replaced the live menu track with a static image so weak machines stop cooking in the menu. 0.5.4-2 restored menu music, UI clicks, and tutorial voice on devices that had been silent, and raised UI / HUD scale to 300% and 400%.

If the Deck cannot select a department, the layout is still mapping the right stick as a mouse. Bind a stick or D-pad to the selection ring. Controls is the binding page.

What the demo will not teach you

A demo weekend is not a Medium-budget career. You will not feel prize money +20%, a summer-break supplier scare (that was a bug, now patched), or a GP-10 window with three offers per turn. Those live in the paid save. Use getting started the moment you buy.

The demo is also not a rain test. Weather is still roadmap item one. Do not wait for wet tyres in the download.

Mod editors are full-game tools. Circuit Editor and Mod Editor need the paid build. You can still decide from the demo whether you want to draw tracks later; the mods page waits until you own it.

When to buy instead of demo-looping

Buy if the live race made you lean in and the desktop did not make you close the window. Early Access opened at $14.99 with a short −12% launch week. 1.0 is expected around $20. Owners receive the five headline updates. Confirm the live price on Steam; this wiki will not freeze a number that Steam can change tomorrow.

Skip or wait if you need rain, era tech, playable touring/GT, or multiplayer on day one. Those are numbered on the roadmap, not missing by accident. The review is the buyer’s-remorse page.

After install: one live quali, one live race, then either uninstall with a clear conscience or open getting started and pick Medium. Keep hotfix notes beside the first career if you are coming in after launch week — puncture margins and infrastructure undo shipped after the trailer did.
